If you need help with your computer, want to order supplies, or simply a friendly conversation, the staff at NJ Health Hospice and Palliative Care go to Giselle Moreno.
The NJHealth Program Coordinator wears many hats, including scheduling our Certified Home Health Aides, ordering equipment and supplies for patients, and Information Technology assistance. She also helps with spiritual care support. “Anything that is needed I will try to help,” she says with her signature warm smile. “I have always loved helping people.”
A former home health aide, she has worked in healthcare for seven years, the past two here on the NJHealth Team. “I loved being an aide because I could care for patients and help the families,” she said. “Now working in the office, I still take care of people, just a little differently, but it's still meaningful to me to be of some help. I love taking care of people and helping others out in whatever way I can.”
Moreno recalls that when she started working in hospice care, some people questioned how she could work so closely with patients who were terminally ill. “Some would tell me I’m crazy and I would reply, no, hospice is rewarding in it's on way.”
The Vineland woman began her healthcare career in 2005 working in nursing homes as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Home Health Aide while still in high school. In 2012 she found that working in hospice was her passion. “Once I started working for hospice, I realized what a difference it was in such a good way. To know that you're helping families and patients, and for them to know that they are not alone. They have support from all of us, which helps them feel at ease. They don't have to worry about everything on their own and can focus on their loved ones, giving them attention. That brings joy to me.”
Moreno has attended Cumberland County College and is pursuing chaplaincy certification through the Embassy of United Chaplains. When she’s not helping patients and colleagues at NJ Health, she enjoys family time, going to church, and volunteering with the youth group at her church ...”to guide them to do right and not fall into the negativity of the world,” she says.
