Tom Misner of Margate enjoys the simple pleasures in life—great music, good company, and a cool treat on a warm day. Recently, Tom shared all three with his private caregiver, Wilson, and NJHealth Music Therapist Karen Melita, as they spent time together enjoying pop music… and popsicles!

At NJHealth Hospice and Palliative Care, moments like these are what music therapy is all about. Whenever possible, Tom and the team take their sessions outdoors, where the fresh air and sunshine create the perfect backdrop for connection and joy.

"Music opens the door to connection in such a natural, joyful way," shared Karen. "For Tom, being outside with his favorite songs and a popsicle in hand turns therapy into a celebration—and it often brings the whole neighborhood together."

Tom is wonderfully social and never misses an opportunity to bring people together. During these outdoor sessions, he often invites neighbors, the mail carrier, and anyone passing by to join in the fun—turning a simple music therapy visit into a shared community experience.
