It started with something simple—a brand-new NJHealth Hospice volunteer T-shirt. Crisp, comfortable, and proudly worn. But for these three very special volunteers, it quickly became something more.
What makes these shirts even more meaningful is that they were designed with input from the very people who wear them best—our volunteers themselves. They shared ideas, offered feedback, and made one request loud and clear: they wanted the words “Proud Volunteer” front and center. Because to them, this isn’t just something they do—it’s something they believe in deeply.
When Jill Naame of Absecon, Karen Martine of Landisville, and Dave Watson of Somers Point slipped on their new shirts, they weren’t just getting dressed—they were stepping into a role they cherish deeply.

Jill smiled as she admired the logo, knowing that behind it are the quiet moments she shares with patients—holding hands, listening closely, offering the gift of presence. For her, the shirt is a reminder that sometimes the smallest acts of kindness mean the most.
Karen gave hers a proud little tug and laughed, saying it “feels official”—but anyone who knows her knows she’s been “official” in heart all along. Whether she’s providing companionship or giving a caregiver a much-needed break, Karen shows up with warmth, patience, and unwavering compassion.

And Dave? He held his T-shirt up with pride like a badge of honor. A steady, kind presence, Dave understands that being there—truly there—for someone during life’s most tender moments is one of the greatest gifts a person can give.
Together, these three volunteers represent something powerful. Yes, they’re showing off new shirts—but what they’re really showing is dedication, heart, and a deep commitment to serving others. And now, with “Proud Volunteer” woven into the design, that commitment is visible for the world to see.
At NJHealth Hospice and Palliative Care, volunteers are more than helpers—they are gentle companions, trusted listeners, and quiet heroes. They step into homes and hearts, offering comfort not just to patients, but to families walking an emotional journey.
And while the shirts may match, the stories each volunteer brings are uniquely their own—woven together by compassion, kindness, and a shared mission to make every moment matter.
So the next time you see someone in an NJHealth volunteer T-shirt, know this: It’s not just a shirt.
It’s a symbol of care, connection, pride, and the incredible difference one person can make.
