A Morning of Memories: Journaling, Music, and Smiles in Vineland

NJHealth's Tim Bretscheider pl.ayed a lively game of "name that tune" with those attending the Making Memories Legacy Breakfast to celebrate Older Americans Month.

To celebrate Older Americans Month, NJ Health Hospice and Palliative Care hosted a memory-sharing and journaling breakfast that felt equal parts cozy and inspiring. The room buzzed with gentle conversation, warm coffee, and a little bit of friendly fun—especially during a “Name That Tune” moment that had guests singing along, laughing, and swapping stories. The first guests to name the tune even received a Wawa gift card, adding an extra sprinkle of excitement to the morning.

This group enjoyed the event and plan to attend next year. Left to right. Thomas Piernikoski, Jean Snitch, and Kathy Ryan all of Fortescue; and Peter Bernardi and Easter Lashley both of Millville.

inspired presentation led by Leslie Baruffi, spiritual care coordinator, alongside Tim Bretschneider, music therapist, who helped turn memories into melody. Each guest received a journal—a keepsake for capturing stories, advice, and the legacy they want to pass along—plus a complimentary breakfast at Larry II Restaurant in Vineland.

“It was wonderful,” said Jean Snitch of Fortescue, sharing that she enjoyed both the companionship and the helpful information. Thomas Piernikowski agreed—with a grin—adding, “The food was great too.”

By the time plates were cleared and the last notes faded, guests left with more than a full stomach—they carried new connections, and a reminder that our memories grow brighter when we share them. Sometimes, all it takes is a song, a pen, and a welcoming table to turn an ordinary morning into a small celebration of life.
