Wrapped in Gratitude: Navy Veteran Receives Quilt of Valor

At NJHealth Hospice and Palliative Care, we believe every Veteran deserves to be recognized and thanked for their service. Recently, we had the privilege of witnessing a truly moving tribute as Navy Veteran Tom Meisner was presented with a handmade quilt from the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

The Quilt of Valor Foundation honors Veterans touched by war with handcrafted quilts that symbolize comfort, healing, and gratitude. During the heartfelt presentation, Tom was surrounded by members of his NJHealth care team and fellow residents and staff at Meadowview Nursing Home who gathered to celebrate his military service and life story.

Joining Tom for this special occasion were his Registered Nurse Case Manager Amy Lutz; Social Worker Lauree Lapidus and Music Therapist Karen Melita. Each has played an important role in supporting Tom's care journey, making the ceremony even more meaningful.

As Beth Plummer from Quilts of Valor lovingly wrapped the quilt around Tom's shoulders, it served as a visible reminder of the nation's appreciation for his service in the United States Navy. Moments like these are powerful demonstrations of the respect and gratitude our community holds for those who have served our country.

"Recognizing our Veterans is an important part of our mission," said Karen Melita, music therapist from NJHealth Hospice and Palliative Care. "We are honored to support patients like Tom and help create opportunities that celebrate their service, sacrifice, and legacy."
