Caring for those who served our country is a privilege—and one that NJ Health Hospice and Palliative Care remains deeply committed to. That’s why our team was honored to participate in the recent Veterans Benefits & Health Fair at the Ocean City Civic Center, an event dedicated to supporting and educating veterans and their families.

Hosted by the Citizens and Veterans Advisory Committee (CVAC) and the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce’s Military & Veterans Committee, the fair brought together more than 40 organizations offering resources, education, and on‑site support.

As a proud member of CVAC, NJ Health Hospice and Palliative Care serves veterans in Cape May County, and throughout Southern New jersey. This event provided a meaningful opportunity to connect with the community and help ensure that local veterans are aware of the benefits and services available to them.

Highlighting Supportive Therapies for Veterans

One of the event’s breakout educational panels featured Manager of Complementary Therapies Karen Melita, certified music therapist with NJ Health Hospice and Palliative Care. Melita shared insights into the organization’s unique complementary therapy programs, including music therapy and therapeutic massage—both offered free of charge to hospice patients.

These evidence‑based therapies help reduce pain, anxiety, and discomfort while supporting emotional well‑being. For veterans coping with serious illness, such services often provide comfort, connection, and a profound sense of peace.

Other panelists addressed topics such as subacute rehabilitation, home health care, veterans' healthcare benefits, long‑term care, and hospice and palliative care options, offering a comprehensive overview of resources available to local veterans.
